Player Profiles

Jason Burt (Committee Member, Former Club Chairman 2019-2021)

Nickname: Cakey

Year Joined Club: 2017

Playing Role: Opening batsman and second choice wicket keeper

Batting Style: Right handed

Bowling Style: Non-exsistent

Career Highlights: Nearly carrying my bat against Westbourne in 2018, just 4 balls short and it was never LBW

Profile: Newly appointed chairman for the 2019 season. Ironically I Joined Chidham after playing against them in 2016. I batted at 4 that day and having gone in early was subjected to a hostile working over by there opening bowlers , it was an OK knock. However it was the friendly and welcoming attitude towards the visiting team that day, coupled with the fact the Skipper unbeknown to me was my neighbor at work that I jumped at the chance to play for them. A great club with an inclusive ethos which I am happy to still be a part of.

Martin 'Vinnie' Smith (Vice-Chairman)

Nickname: Vinnie

Year Joined Club: 2013

Playing Role: All rounder

Batting Style: Right handed

Bowling Style: Right arm mixed bag

Career Highlights: Taking 3 catches at Wisborough Green during the 2013 Brighton tour. Captaining the Hambrook side to Chidbrook Cup glory in 2014 and hitting my first 6 and scoring 25 runs in the process.

Profile: Not played cricket since my school days but a random chat at the annual local school duck race got me involved in the club in 2013. Batting and bowling has steadily improved over the last few years thanks to the help of the other players culimating in me winning the Most Improved player award in 2015.

Keith Davey (Team Captain)

Nickname: Mr Whippy

Year Joined Club: 2008

Playing Role: All rounder

Batting Style: Right hand bat

Bowling Style: Medium swing bowler

Career Highlights: Batsmen of the year 2015 despite only being middle order

Profile: Absolute gentleman of the game. Bowling student of David Loten, which makes him the second oldest swinger in town. Batting, still would prefer to be holding a tennis racket or golf club. (profile written by Paul Walmsley)

Peter Wild (Team Accountant)

Nickname: The Wild Thing

Year Joined Club: 2013

Playing Role: Bastman

Batting Style: Baseball

Bowling Style: Wide!

Career Highlights: Duck Prize 2015

Profile: Joined with Vinnie in 2013 after our skills at duck racing were noticed by Clarkie (definite duck theme going on here). Never played much other than beach cricket before so a bit of a steep learning curve but with the support of my team I now like to believe that I am very comfortable with Bat in Hand, which my Duck prize in 2015 proves, it was only 2 and my first ever cricket award.

Andy Gubbs (Former Chairman 2015-2019)

Nickname: Gubbsie

Year Joined Club: 2008

Playing Role: Low order batsman

Batting Style: Right hand bat, genuine number 12

Bowling Style: Right arm spinner, scatter gun with the odd hand grenade!

Career Highlights: Smashing his first six away to Hambledon in 2017 (12ft boundary)

Profile: Clubman but not mini. Cricket enthusiast extraordinaire. Best known for his umpiring and fielding skills. Gubbsy is one of the 3 primary school teachers within the squad, who feel the need to award stickers and place gold stars in the score book.

This despite constant reminders that a beer down the Barleycorn would be a more appropriate reward.

Chris Pink

Nickname: Pinky

Year Joined Club: 2014

Playing Role: All rounder comic genius (Club Captain)

Batting Style: Left handed

Bowling Style: Right arm wobble

Career Highlights: Watching Ben slap a ton at Oaklands Park, Ben and I had a winning stand of 120 but Ben scored 107 of them.

Profile: The club Captain, a larger than life comical genius who can often be seen wearing Rupert the Bear or chef like trousers. Chris is an all rounder who is comfortable with both bat and ball and also a good tactician too although rarely wins the toss. Not a bad golfer either

Jon Keynes

Nickname: Keyno / Sicknote

Year Joined Club: 2008

Playing Role: Spin bowler (Vice Captain)

Batting Style: Right hand bat

Bowling Style: Left arm spinner

Career Highlights: Scoring 44 runs against Stansted and taking 4 wickets for just 16 runs at Walberton.

Profile: Spritual leader providing the ying to Chris Pink's yang, injury prone.

Clive Dungar

Nickname: Doombar / Mr Angry

Year Joined Club: 2010

Playing Role: All rounder

Batting Style: Right hand bat

Bowling Style: Right arm medium-fast

Career Highlights: Took 3 wickets in his first league match for Bosham in 2016

Profile: Wears his heart on his sleeve, aggressive bowler and batsman, takes no prisoners. One player you wouldn't want to mess with if the chips are down, even if you are playing for the same side!

Paul O'Donohue

Nickname: POD

Year Joined Club: 2008

Playing Role: Batsman

Batting Style: Right hand bat, ugly slugger

Bowling Style: Right arm spinner, all over the place if the odd one turning

Career Highlights: Most improved player 2014

Profile: Loveable guy. particularly valued for his power batting but also can provide spin bowling, energetic fielding as well as a variety of sauces for the raffle. Likes to live life on the edge!

Tom Phizackerley

Nickname: Fizz

Year Joined Club: 2013

Playing Role: Bowler

Batting Style: Right hand

Bowling Style: Right arm medium

Career Highlights:

Profile:

Ben Gottesman

Nickname: Backquack

Year Joined Club: 2008

Playing Role: All rounder

Batting Style: Right hand, back foot, bottom handed bludgeoner

Bowling Style: Right arm fast medium, downhill trundler with occasional surprise delivery

Career Highlights: A cabinet full of trophies! World Stone Skimming Champion.

Profile: All round sportsman, Brilliant. Quiet, but silent waters run deep. This guy's passion for the game is immense as is his contribution with bat and ball. However he draws the line at running more than a single and then only if absolutely necessary i.e. to keep the strike. (profile written by Paul Walmsley)

Steve Clark

Nickname: The Legend

Year Joined Club: 2008

Playing Role: Bowler

Batting Style: Right hand bat

Bowling Style: Right arm medium

Career Highlights:

Profile: Legend. Possibly the greediest bowler as he nurtures a reputation for bowling extras. Works hard, plays hard. Steve has taught me more than anyone about the "spirit of the game" ( Neil look it up on the M.C.C. website) . Clarky's bowling can be devastating, but you can never be sure for which team. Steve likens himself to a combination of Boycott and Garner. The only problem is he bowls like Geoffrey and bats like Joel. (profile written by Paul Walmsley).

Willem Van Niekerk

Nickname: Will / Saffer

Year Joined Club: 2014

Playing Role: All rounder

Batting Style: Left hand bat

Bowling Style: Left hand medium pace

Career Highlights: Club all rounder in 2015, his first full season and also slapped 45 runs for Bosham in only his second league match to help the home team to victory.

Profile: Chidham's only over seas player, a never say die attitude, his body is in absolute bits but he is prepared to play through the pain, what broken arm? Has fully established himself in the team now and is just as happy bowling as with the bat, happy to spill blood for the cause!

Bowling Style: Right arm medium-fast

Career Highlights: 81 not out aginst Emsworth 08/06/16

Profile: Incredibly consistent player with both bat and ball. Mr. Reliable. Renowned for his laugh when any misfortune occurs to a fellow team mate. Interestingly positioned deep in the field, the hyenas cackle still pierces the heart of the unfortunate cricketer who receives it. A great performer who is available for children's parties and Bar Mitzvahs. (profile written by Paul Walsmley)

Profile: A great sportsman. A bit O.C.D. about neatness though (look smart play smart). We had to draw the line when he brought along an extension lead and a vacuum cleaner to give the wicket a quick once over. (Profile written by Paul Walmsley)

Andy Clark

Nickname: Clarky II

Year Joined Club: 2016

Playing Role:

Batting Style

Bowling Style:

Career Highlights: Taking two wickets at Emsworth 08/06/16

Profile: I would describe myself as a bit of a bowler, bit of a batsman depending on how well I've done in either the week before! Handy in chasing down balls in the deep, handy in chasing down pints at the Barley Corn after!

John Strudwick

Nickname: Strudders

Year Joined Club: 2016

Playing Role: All rounder

Batting Style: Right hand

Bowling Style: Medium right arm swing bowler

Career Highlights: 46 runs and 1 wicket against Bosham 07/05/17

Profile: I am a very "nice" chap who will do anything to get a bat and a bowl. I like playing with a smile on my face! I don't take the piss, not all the time anyway and I like a joke!

Playing Role: Suspect, club match reporter

Batting Style: Golfer

Bowling Style: Not applicable (extremely wide)

Career Highlights: Playing in front of his 20 strong personal entourage at the Chidbrook Cup 2015

Profile: Completely new to the game although it doesn't show, is happier holding a golf club which is actually how he holds his cricket bat, good fielding skills though. Big Al is one of the up and coming Chidham & Hambrook players and hopefully the club will have a big enough helmet to fit his head when he next pads up.
