Extras and Run Outs Cost Hawks Dear at Westbourne

20/08/20: Westbourne CC v Chidham & Hambrook CC

Westbourne 142-9 (20 overs)

Chidham & Hambrook 110-5 (20 overs)

Westbourne win by 32 runs

Chidham & Hambrook made it eight defeats from eight matches as they suffered a heavy loss at Westbourne on Thursday night.

Westbourne won the toss and elected to bat first in the glorious sunshine and Hawks got off to a good start with the home side restricted to just 30 runs in the first 7 overs thanks to the steady bowling attack of Strudwick (2 wickets) and Pine (1 wicket). Matt Hill then took a wicket in his first over but things started to go downhill from there with Hawks giving away multiple no balls and wides and Westbourne also starting to find the boundary. A late brace of wickets apiece for Davey and Van Niekerk added some shine to proceedings but by then the damage was done and Hawks were left chasing an improbable 143 for the victory.

Phizackerley and Van Niekerk opened for the Hawks and the latter was soon run out when on 5 runs after a mix up over a shot which didn't quite reach the boundary. Andy Pine (0) suffered the same fate without even facing a ball and Smith (9) and Wild (1) were also unable to match the pace of Phizackerley in between the wickets. Davey was bowled by Taylor at number 4 but despite his partners coming and going one by one, Tom Phizackerley put up another amazing display for the Hawks to carry his bat through the innings with 70 runs.

Hawks were well beaten on the day but the fact they took 9 wickets and also Tom Phizackerley carried his bat was a moral victory in itself.
