17/07/19: Lou's Casuals CC v Chidham & Hambrook CC

Chidham won the toss and opted to bat first

Chidham & Hambrook 120-5 (20 overs)

Lou's Casuals 122-3 (18.3 overs)

Lou's Casuals won by 7 wickets

Lou's Casuals finally got the better of Chidham & Hambrook at the fifth attempt as they coasted to a seven wicket victory at Portsmouth Rugby club on Thursday evening.

Hawks captain Keith Davey elected to bat first after winning the 15 minute pre-match toss and openers Tom Phizacekerley and Jonny Maynard got off to a blistering start with 35 runs being recorded in the first five overs. However Phiz was caught and bowled by Tom in the next over when on 17 runs and the pace slowed down soon after - A Wild Was run out on 15 runs and his replacement P Wild was bowled out by big Nick for a duck. Davey (20) had a good knock before being bowled by Boyle and M Maynard (9) and Alex (8) did their bit late on to set the chase target at 121.

The Hawks opening bowlers got off to a good enough start with Pine only conceding 3 runs for his 3 overs and Alex taking the wicket of big hitting Tom (10) in the 4th over. M Maynard took the wicket of Daron after he was caught out on 20 runs but Matt Redman (25) and Simon 2 (27) turned the tide for the Casuals with a long sequence of singles and eventually some neat boundaries. Both players were forced to retire at the end of the 14th over and at that stage the home side only needed 30 runs off the last six overs. Matt W was caught on 3 runs but Nick G (11) and P Boyle (13) ensured a Casual's victory with 9 balls to spare and 7 wickets in hand.

One of Davey's shots in the first innings smashed into fielder Sime Toms who went down as if snipered and had to be helped off the pitch nursing a badly swollen knee. Hopefully the Casual's victory eased his pain somewhat.
