Hawks Sulking After Heavy Loafers Defeat

Chidham and Hambrook were given a damned good thrashing by the Skulking Loafers at Delling Lane on Thursday evening and never once looked like reaching the massive winning target set at 170 runs.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first - Dungar and Gottesman made sure that runs were hard to come by in the first few overs but the experienced Loafers soon got the scoreboard ticking over reaching 57 for 1 after 8 overs. Peterson and Phizackerley joined the Hawks attack and took 5 wickets between then during the next 8 overs and with Skulking at 118-5 off 16 overs the Hawks would have been reasonably happy. However another 51 runs were gifted in the remaining overs and the home team faced a serious uphill struggle.

Peterson showed some early promise hitting 9 runs off the first 3 balls in the Hawks innings but he was then caught out in the second over with his opening partner Longland already gone for 1 run at the end of the first over. Number 3 Gottesman soon followed after being bowled for 1 before John Strudwick got the scoreboard ticking again, eventually reaching 26 not out to make ammends for some ragged bowling earlier in the evening. O'Donohue and Strudwick junior were only able to score a few runs before returning to the sidelines but things perked up when captain Keith Davey hit a remakably quick 28 not out (6 boundaries) and Dungar also hit 25 not out including a fine six - however the damage had already been done and the Hawks ultimately fell well short.
