29/07/16: Raymarine CC v Chidham & Hambrook CC
Raymarine won the toss and elected to bat
Raymarine CC 95-9 (20 overs)
Chidham & Hambrook CC 96-4 (15.1 overs)
All good things come to those who wait and it was a case of ninth time lucky as the Hawks finally won their first game of the season away to Raymarine on Thursday night.
Raymarine play at the hidden Oasis of Bedhampton village, a beautiful pitch with a quaint wooden clubhouse and an adventure park for the kids - on the overcast night in question a ladies fitness club was taking place on an adjacent field with music pumping out so this match was more akin to a T20 blast.
The home team won the toss and elected to bat but with Keynes pulling out through injury and Diver and Davey both running late from work, Chidham had to take the field with just 8 players.
However, a combination of excellent bowling (Gottesman 2 wickets, Dungar 1, Diver 1, Pink 2, J. Wild 2, Smith 1) and six amazing catches (O'Donohue 2, Smith 2, Diver & J. Wild) gave the Hawks a decisive advantage and left the home side on just 95-9.
Andy Wild and Paul O'Donohue opened the batting for Chidham and were rolling along nicely with a partnership of 46 - no sooner was it said that this was probably the best opening Hawks partnership for some time, O'Donohue's centre stump was taken by Graham next ball. Davey came in and was quickly dismissed by the same bowler and the clouds of doubt started to descend.
However despite cheap wickets for Pink and Dungar, Gottesman and J. Wild steadied the ship and Chidham ultimately coasted to victory with six wickets and almost 4 overs to spare.
A memorable victory for ten man Chidham and some new friends made on the night, the Hawks would certainly like to play Raymarine again next season, both home and away.
